Site

This 1860's era home is located in the historic West End neighborhood of Portland, Maine. The formal front entrance faces Spring Street and the rear entry and driveway face Clifford Street. The home is surrounded by large maple treees and by other historic buildings from the 1800's. There is a small yard with space for gardens and terraces. For this remodel, I was careful to honor the spirit of the home and the history of the neighborhood, yet transform the interiors into modern, more comfortable living spaces. I presented my case, which was based on historical precedents and home stewardship, to the historic committee and they appreciated my remodel design.
