My Folks' Place is
located in Liberty, Maine, a rural town whose residents live by the motto,
"Think Globally; Act Locally." Many of the townspeople live close
to the earth by growing their own food, cutting their own firewood, and by
sharing resources. The community aims to keep business and trade local, thus
minimizing transportation costs and its associated ecological damages. While
designing and building this home, I strove to capture Liberty's spirit of
simplicity and sustainability. The homestead of My Folks' Place offers magnificent views of Georgetown River,
Haystack Mountain, orchards, gardens, and wooded hillsides. The landscapes and especially the
beautiful mountainside inspired me to create a home that not only compliments its surroundings, but
also allows the homeowner to enjoy the amazing vistas from within the house.
