Energy Efficiency
To improve energy-efficiency at One-O-Five Walnut Street, the original
insulation, windows, and doors were removed and upgraded and the heating system was replaced.
The building was underinsulated as most buildings of its time. Heat produced by the antiquated,
inefficient oil burner escaped directly through the un-insulated attic.
We deepened the walls to accomodate more insulation. The roof was removed
and replaced with 12" deep I-joist which allowed us to achieve a R-38
insulation value. The leaky single pane, double hung windows
were replaced with Marvin metal clad thermal pane window units.
The single phase oil furnace was replaced this with an "on-demand" wall-mounted propane burner. The "on-demand" burner heats water that is distributed
through the floors and baseboards.
